# PREIS-Polio: source-validated historical database of official poliovirus detections in Africa, December 2020–July 2026 Companion data and code for the Rapid Communication submitted to the Journal of Public Health in Africa. ## Contents- `data/polio_history_validated_661_2034.csv` – 661 atomic records (2,034 reported detections; 30 Dec 2020 – 22 Jul 2026; 39 African countries). SHA-256: `E461A4ABEE89499685F24B92E51CFA4E2C6D2DF40436E1728F09445F111DD5B4`.- `data/africa_countries_rcc.geojson` – Natural Earth country polygons (medium scale, rnaturalearth R package) grouped into the five Africa CDC RCCs with a country–RCC correspondence table; used for the maps.- `registers/` – correction register (each change with old/new value and quoted evidence), items held for human review, environmental events without a named virus, and validation results.- `code/` – Python/R scripts used for validation, correction and figures.- `figures/` – Figures 1 and 2.- `references/` – reference-verification register.- `SHA256SUMS.txt` – checksums of every file. ## Source and scopeSource: Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), weekly page "Polio this week", via archived captures. Counts are detections reported in a bulletin, not incidence. Only 154 of 291 expected weekly editions were retrieved (52.9%); an absent edition is not a zero. The database supports descriptive analysis only. ## StatusUnofficial prototype; not an official position of Africa CDC.
