资源简介:
LTER/VCR009:
The objective of this project is to provide estimates of flow paths
and rates of transport through the subsurface environment in upland
areas at each end of the box transect from Hog Island to the mainland.
This information is critical to understanding nutrient processes,
plant zonation, and soil digenesis on Hog Island, and estimating the
flux of nutrients between upland areas and the fringing marshes. Water
levels are being measured weekly on all wells. Selected wells are
monitored continuously by water level recorders. Some salinity data is
also being collected at Brownsville and on Hog Island. Weekly water
level measurements were collected from a transect of 21 wells at
Brownsville. On the peninsula, 17 wells were drilled at a depth of
approximately 15 feet below the surface, one at a depth of 158.75
feet, and one at 28.56 feet. Two wells (approximately 8 feet below the
surface and penetrating the shallow aquifer) were hand-augured in the
marsh on either side of the peninsula.
