The study goal was to investigate the prokaryote and eukaryote microbiota associated to the black soldier fly (BSF, Hermetia illucens) and the rearing substrate. Samples were taken along the developmental stages of the substrate, the whole BSF and the digestive tract divided by functional regions. Developmental stages were from the first generation imagoes to the second generation imagoes. Microbiota was investigated by sequencing 16S rDNA V3-V4 regions amplicons and 18S rDNA V3 region amplicons (amplified using blocking primers specific to Hermetia illucens 18S rDNA V3 region).
