Federal Agency for Nature Conservation: Porpoise monitoring spread 3-year periods (WMS)

This service provides information on the population density of porpoises in the German offshore areas based on a 10x10 km grid (EU-GRID). The density [individuals/km²] is determined for each grid cell by adding the individual number of counting points within the respective grid cell and dividing it by the sum of the effort at the counting points. Individual layers show in 3-year increments the spread of the species divided into seasons. The calculations are made for three-year periods (2001-03; 2004-06; 2007-09; 2010-12; 2013-15) and separated by season (March — May: Spring; June — August: Summer; Sep-tember — November: Autumn; December — February: Winter). Thus, for each 3-year period, four result data sets with the population density related to the grid cells are generated. In addition to porpoise density, the density of the sighted juveniles is also determined. The data are based on the pig whale recordings carried out within the framework of the BfN monitoring programme. This WMS is a WMS with time properties.
