Ecosystem classification and mapping in the Intensively Monitored Area of the CHARS Experimental and Reference Area

Within the larger goal of characterizing and mapping circumpolar arctic terrestrial ecosystems by models based on ground data and satellite imagery, the work performed in August 2016 focused on the detailed characterization and mapping of ecosystems of a smaller area within the Intensively Monitored Area of the CHARS Experimental and Reference Area, on the northern shore of Greiner Lake. The ecosystem characterization and mapping have been performed by collecting plot, ecosystem and vegetation data in field, as well as the subsequent development of vegetation models based on the collected data and satellite imagery. The work resulted in a detailed ecosystem map of the investigated area.
