Plant Diversity and Dispersal at Danby Woods Grassland in York University.

The data was collected on Monday September 21st, 2015 at 3:00pm at the grassland of Dansby Woods in York University. The temperature was 18°C and it was sunny with clear skies. The area where the field sampling took place had an abundance of plant species such as White Oak, Red Oak, Common Plantain, Common Milkweed, Common Dandelion, Service Oak, and Wild Mustard. The sampling was done in groups of four which included Shahana, Paula, Aziza, and Sahar. Four datasets were collected two from grassland and two from woodlot. This sampling was conducted with the help of Sahar. To record the data a 1m x 1m square quadrat made out of metal was placed randomly on the grassland. For the first quadrat about 5 steps was taken and then a quadrat was placed randomly on the grassland. This was repeated until 25 plots were sampled. The abundance of plants was estimated by doing a very quick count of every individual in the quadrat. The total number of different species was identified by using a plant identification key that was based on features such as colour, shape, and size. The total cover of all vegetation and the total cover of grass was done by observing what was present in the quadrat, and estimating a percentage based on how much of it was occupied.
