Models included distance to open areas (< 25% canopy cover; ‘DistLowCover’), distance to dense cover (> 75% canopy cover; ‘DistHeavyCover’), patch area of dense cover (‘PatchArea’), percent vertical canopy cover (‘CanopyCover’) and density of 0–1 m vegetation (Density1mVeg). Each model included animal ID as a random intercept; all variables were scaled and centered by standard deviation.
