Whole genome sequencing of Pedetontus nipponicus

This study intends to determine the whole genome sequence of the Pedetontus nipponicus. The order Archaeognatha, which includes P. nipponicus, separated from other taxonomic groups at the bottom of the evolutionary tree of insecta. P. nipponicus is known as 'living fossil' because this species retains primitive characteristics of insects, such as ametaboly. Therefore, the chromosome-scale genome assembly of P. nipponicus will provide insights into the evolution of insecta.
