Supporting Data for: Is third language learning influenced by working memory, implicit learning, and inhibitory control?

This dataset comprises behavioral, cognitive, and EEG data collected during a study on third language acquisition using artificial languages. Participants were exposed to Mini-English and Mini-Norwegian, two miniature artificial languages specifically designed to test sensitivity to grammatical structures, particularly gender agreement. Behavioral data were obtained through a gender agreement judgment task, where participants evaluated whether sentences in the artificial language followed correct grammatical rules. Cognitive data include scores from three executive function tasks: the Digit Span (DGS) task for working memory, the Alternating Serial Reaction Time (ASRT) task for implicit learning, and the Stroop task for inhibitory control. Additionally, EEG recordings captured neural responses while participants completed the grammatical judgment task, providing time-locked ERP data for both grammatical and gender violation conditions. This rich, multimodal dataset allows for an in-depth analysis of how executive functions and neural mechanisms support the acquisition of morphosyntactic features in a novel third language.
