This thesis explores how microscale, disk-shaped structures called microdisk resonators can trap and circulate light on a chip. These resonators are built from silica on silicon and are tested using a fine optical fibre to measure their performance. The study also integrates ultra-thin two-dimensional materials with these resonators to create efficient light sources. Careful design and advanced fabrication improve their performance. This research supports the development of compact and reliable light sources, essential for future quantum computing technologies, secure communication, and sensing.
