Meta-Transcriptomic Comparison of the RNA Viromes of the Mosquito Vectors Culex pipiens and Culex torrentium in Northern Europe

Mosquitoes harbour an extensive diversity of RNA viruses. There is a gap of knowledge on the evolutionary history, spread and diversity of RNA viruses from northern latitudes. Here, we investigated and compared the RNA virome of two common northern Culex vector species, Cx. pipiens and Cx. torrentium, collected in south-central Sweden, by performing RNA-sequencing and analysing the meta-transcriptome for the presence of RNA viruses.
