Abnormal Chromosome 10 (Ab10) in Zea mays and related species is preferentially transmitted over normal chromosome 10 through female meiosis. Multiple variants of Ab10 exist as well as a collection of smd mutants that suppress preferential segregation. The major goal of this project is to characterize gene expression variation and DNA sequence variation in these variants and mutants.
