Report of Special Committee on Historic Preservation

In 1966 a Special Committee was appointed for Historic Preservation. This document is the Special Committee’s report which has been adopted as a basis for major strengthening of the Service’s professional organization to meet today’s needs. This report explains the considerations underlying the recent reorganization of the United States’ history, archeology, and historic architecture staffs. It was created to give a useful understanding of the broadened responsibilities in historic preservation and the measurements being taken to meet these responsibilities.
