Global biodiversity indicator data for BHI, BERI, PARC-representativeness, PARC-connectedness and ecosystem condition (2000-2024)

This collection provides biodiversity indicator data for all terrestrial areas of the world (excluding Antarctica) annually (2000-2024) at 30 arcsecond spatial resolution (0.01°, ≈1 km at the equator).
The indicators for which data are provided are:
- the Biodiversity Habitat Index (BHI);
- the Bioclimatic Ecosystem Resilience Index (BERI);
- the Protected Area Representativeness and Connectedness Index for representativeness (PARC-representativeness);
- the Protected Area Representativeness and Connectedness Index for connectedness (PARC-connectedness).

Data are also provided for ecosystem condition, which is an input to BHI, BERI and PARC-connectedness.

The data are provided in two formats; raster layers and summary tables for specified reporting regions.

Raster data (GeoTIFF) are provided for each indicator for each year. To generate indicator values for any reporting region using these rasters, the guidance in the 'regional-summary-methods-data-code' folder should be followed. Code is also provided (in R and Python) for this purpose.

The tabular data (csv format) provide summary indicator values for countries of the world, biomes within countries, and the entire world. The data presented in the summary tables have been derived in two alternate representations: (1) as regional summaries of the raster data provided; (2) through a customised indicator analysis that considers each country as a 'closed system' which removes the effects of changes in protection and ecosystem condition that occur outside the borders of the country (see methods document attached).
