Building Coastal Resilience in the Gladstone Region – Recovering from Tropical Cyclone Marcia #3

The coastal foreshore areas in the Gladstone region are under increased urbanised pressures which has reduced the ability of the environment to recover following natural disasters. A series of natural disasters have caused damage to the coastal foreshore through coastal erosion and vegetation loss. Urban pressures make it difficult for this area to recover naturally following natural disasters due to increased usage, weeds, and vegetation loss. Project sites will be selected on the basis of environmental value and level of threat by weeds, fire and habitat loss. Management of public access and weed removal will be followed by revegetation using native plants endemic to the site to increase the resilience of the coast.
