NODC IEO Data Catalogue

The Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC), as Spain’s National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC) within the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) network of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC / UNESCO), manages, preserves and disseminates marine data and metadata generated through more than a century of oceanographic research. The IEO’s Oceanographic Data Centre was established in 1968 and has since played a key role in the management and international exchange of Spain’s oceanographic data. Its data resources cover a wide range of marine observations and oceanographic activities and are managed according to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable). The IEO geoportal, based on GeoNetwork and compliant with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW) and ISO 19115/19139 standards, provides access to a metadata catalogue (nodc.ieo.es/geonetwork) built primarily from SeaDataNet Cruise Summary Reports (CSR). It also offers geospatial visualisation and data access services, including Web Map Service (WMS) and Web Feature Service (WFS), and interactive dashboards for data exploration and analysis. As a partner of SeaDataNet, the IEO contributes marine data and metadata through CSR and the Common Data Index (CDI), while also providing machine-to-machine access through CSW, Catalogue Service for the Web–Transactional (CSW-T), and a Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interface (REST API).
