The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) is the highest plateau in the world, in which the microorganisms play an important role in the global biogeochemical cycle. However, we still have very limited knowledge about the microbial communities in QTP. We used whole metagenome shotgun (WMGS) sequencing technology to analyze the composition and metabolic potential of the water and soil microbial communities in QTP. The soil and water samples were collected at Bamucuo, at an altitude of 4,560 meters.
