Sequencing DNA from lupin seeds and lupin-containing cookies. Lupinus

Fast and reliable methods are required for the identification of plant origin components from degraded metagenomic samples. DNA from Lupinus albus, Lupinus angustifolius, Lupinus mutabilis seeds and lupin-containing cookies were sequenced to test a k-mer based method for the identification of plant taxa directly from sequencing raw reads of metagenomic samples. Lupinus spp. and Lupinus albus specific k-mers identified from chloroplast genome were detected in whole genome sequencing reads from leaves and seeds of different Lupinus species, but also from cookies containing different amount of lupin flour.
