This repository contains the HydroGeoSphere (HGS) model input files needed to reproduce all numerical simulations reported in the manuscript "Urban building foundations exacerbate seawater intrusion into coastal groundwater." Each ZIP archive corresponds to a single simulation scenario and is named according to the convention used throughout the paper. Only model input files are provided; the (much larger) simulation output files are not included, as they can be regenerated from these inputs. Naming convention. BC5 and BC50 denote the base-case aquifers with hydraulic conductivity K = 5 m/d and K = 50 m/d, respectively. The suffixes -fullFd and -halfFd indicate building foundations that penetrate the full or upper-half aquifer thickness; -aniso indicates an anisotropic case (Kx = Ky = 10Kz); cases without these suffixes contain no foundation. The prefixes SLR- and Surge- denote the transient sea-level-rise and storm-surge simulations, while CHead- denotes the sensitivity test using a specified-head landward boundary. Cases without a prefix are the steady-state (quasi-steady) simulations. Contents of each archive. Found_SWI.grok is the main HGS input file (defining the mesh, solver settings, boundary conditions, and variable-density solute-transport parameters); td.mprops and td.oprops specify the porous-media and overland-flow material properties; seawall.txt provides the seaward head boundary; and the output-time and forcing files (output_times.txt, output_times_SLR.txt, output_times_surge.txt, SLR.txt, overwash.txt) prescribe the output schedule and time-varying sea level. Foundation cases additionally include Z.asc (land-surface elevation) and xyz_building.txt / xyz_foundation.txt, which define the locations of the buildings and their foundations.
