Bacteria from the genus Providencia are generally considered to be opportunistic pathogens in many animal species and human. At present, there is no complete genome of Providencia heimbachae.The pathogenic role of Providencia heimbachae in single or polymicrobial infections is unclear, and the prevalence and economic importance of the bacteria remain unknown. We first isolated Providencia heimbachae 99101 strain from swine, and proved that it is pathogenic to pigs. Sequencing and analysis of the whole genome is of great significance to the understanding of the biological characteristics of the bacteria, especially the pathogenicity.
