Methanable Potential — Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes — 2022

As part of the assessment of renewable energy potential, the methanable potential for the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has been characterised. The assessment of this potential is based on a methodology developed by Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Énergie Environnement (AURA-EE). To establish this potential, as a first step, the quantities of materials are determined by sector. The movable share of these different quantities of materials is then estimated and converted into methane volume and energy (GWh). The already exploited part of this potential is estimated using the shared regional monitoring of the methanisation chain (annual DREAL/Region/ADEME follow-up by DREAL and AURA-EE). It is removed from potential to obtain the remaining potential. It should be noted that the methodology presented here is scalable and can be improved in the future.
