We report that loss of TOR complex TORC2 and Gad8 (AKT in human cells) results in loss of gene silencing at the subtelomeric regions. We demonstrate that TORC2-Gad8 is required for assembly of specific heterochromatic regions that lie between the chromosome arm euchromatin and telomere-proximal heterochromatin. At these subtelomeric regions, loss of TORC2-Gad8 results in loss of the heterochromatic histone 3 lysine 9 di-methylation (H3K9me2).
