CULTURAL SEMIOTICS OF PLACE NAMES IN UZBEK AND ENGLISH LINGUISTIC LANDSCAPES

This article examines the cultural semiotics of place names within Uzbek and English linguistic landscapes and analyzes how toponyms function as carriers of historical memory, cultural identity, and social ideology. The study explores the symbolic meanings embedded in geographical names and investigates the relationship between language, culture, and collective consciousness through semiotic interpretation. Particular attention is paid to the sociohistorical processes that shape urban and rural toponyms in both linguistic traditions. The research applies comparative, linguocultural, and semiotic approaches to identify similarities and differences in the representation of national values, ethnic identity, and cultural narratives through place names.
