Patient acceptance of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator: initial psychometric investigation of the Florida Patient Acceptance Survey

Despite the proven effectiveness of implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), shock therapies can cause unfavorable psychological outcomes, compromising the level of patient acceptance of the cardiac device. The purpose of this study was to adapt the Florida Patient Acceptance Survey (FPAS) to the Brazilian Portuguese language in a sample of ICD patients, comparing the psychometric indicators of the complete (FPAS-18 item) and abbreviated (FPAS-12 item) versions of the instrument.
