The local potato germplasm collection at Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV) represents a valuable genetic resource for breeding programs targeting enhanced yield, stress tolerance, and disease resistance. To explore the genetic diversity and structure of these indigenous potato genotypes, genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) was employed. This high-throughput technique facilitated the discovery of genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), enabling precise genetic characterization. The study involved DNA extraction from a diverse set of local potato accessions, followed by GBS library preparation and sequencing using an Illumina platform. The resulting SNP dataset will contribute to understanding the genetic basis of agronomic traits and support the development of superior cultivars adapted to the agro-climatic conditions of northern West Bengal. This bioproject underscores UBKV's commitment to leveraging molecular tools for crop improvement and germplasm conservation.
