Microbiome in pediatric obesity

The intestinal microbiome plays a pivotal role in modifying the composition of the BA pool and hence modulates BA signaling properties. Conversely, BA can influence the composition of the gut microbiota. Altered BA signaling might contribute also to the development of components of the metabolic syndrome / obesity. Obese children show altered BA composition and intestinal microbiota diversity. So far, a clear-cut association between BA alteration and microbiome composition in obesity has not been shown. This study wants to investigate the dynamics of the intestinal microbiota in obese children.
