The DNA of each sample was amplified for the fungal ITS2 region using respectively the Rust2inv/ITS4var_H (rust-specific) and ITS9F/ITS4R (universal) primer sets, i.e. two sequencing libraries for each sample. The ITS2 amplicons were subjected to library preparation and Illumina MiSeq sequencing at the Genome Quebec Innovation Centre (Montreal, QC, Canada).
