资源简介:
We propose Parkes follow-up observations of a new pulsar discovered from the ongoing SMART pulsar survey at the MWA. Initial analysis suggests that the pulsar likely belongs to the rare class of low-luminosity, steep-spectrum pulsars. The proposed observations will help verify this conjecture, through flux density measurements and spectral analysis of the pulsar, which will be possible by combining Parkes data along with those from MWA and the planned observations with the GMRT. This class of pulsars makes up ~2% of the currently-known population of long-period pulsars, and understanding their emission and spectral properties is vital to develop a more comprehensive picture of the Galactic population of pulsars, and to make meaningful forecast of the detectable population of pulsars in future low-frequency surveys, including those planned with SKA-Low. The proposed observations will also allow us to determine the pulsar's spin and astrometric parameters via regular timing observations, and possibly the pulsar's emission geometry via high-time resolution polarimetric analysis.
