Hören Musiktherapeuten anders? Do music therapists hear differently?

Ausgehend von einer Darstellung der neurobiologischen Grundlagen des auditorischen Systems werden zwei Thesen formuliert: Erstens, dass Musiktherapeuten anders hören als Psychotherapeuten, die keine musikalische Ausbildung haben. Diese These wird abgeleitet von Studien, die neuroanatomische und neurophysiologische Unterschiede zwischen Musikern und Nicht-Musikern belegen konnten. Zweitens wird die These vertreten, dass Musiktherapeuten auch anders als Musiker hören, da der Fokus ihrer Aufmerksamkeit auf anderen Aspekten des musikalischen Geschehens liegt. Als Schlussfolgerung hieraus wird anhand eines hypothetischen Modells diskutiert, inwieweit Musiktherapeuten über spezifische auditive Fähigkeiten verfügen, die sie von anderen Berufsgruppen unterscheiden. Abschließend werden Implikationen für die musiktherapeutische Forschung, Lehre und Praxis behandelt. Based on an outline of the neurobiological foundations of the auditory system, two theses are presented: firstly, it is proposed that the way music therapists hear, is different from the way psychotherapists without musical training hear. This thesis is derived from scientific studies, which could show neuroanatomical and neurophysiological differences between musicians and non-musicians. Secondly, it is suggested that, in addition, music therapists hear in a different way to musicians because they focus on different aspects of the music they are listening to. As a conclusion it will be discussed whether music therapists have specific auditory skills, distinguishing them from other professions. Finally, implications for research, training, and treatment in music therapy will be considered. peerReviewed publishedVersion
