Red algae are one of the largest phyla in the algae, however, the genomic information about red algae is relatively rare. In this study, we choose an economic macroalga Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis to reconstruct its draft genome. 88.98 Mb genome was generated from 13,825 (500 bp) scaffolds with a N50 length of 30,590 bp, and 9,281 protein-coding genes were predicted. The possible phylogenetic relationship of Gp. lemaneiformis with other algae and higher plants were revealed through the whole genome comparison. In addition, multiple carbohydrate–related genes including agar biosynthesis and GH, GT were extremely rich in this red alga, and the phytohormone signaling pathway was the first time to be confirmed in this alga. The work represents an important advance in Gp. lemaneiformis functional genomics, and will be useful in the marine algae research.
