This study evaluates the anaerobic degradation of lignocellulosic biomass under sulfate-reducing conditions, investigating the influence of trace element availability, the presence of excess metals typically found in mining-influenced waters (MIW), and the effect of agitation on system performance. Batch reactors were operated under different medium compositions and mixing regimes to assess the potential for co-treatment of MIW with lignocellulosic residues, aiming to enhance biomass valorization while simultaneously reducing sulfate levels and metal-associated impacts.
