Fill from a roasting pit feature at site 42WS479 in southwest Utah was floated to recover
charred macrofloral remains. Charcoal from the sample was processed for AMS radiocarbon
dating. This site represents a relatively large open scatter with a very large thermal feature in
the center. Artifacts from the feature suggest a late Archaic occupation. Macrofloral analysis
will be used to provide information concerning plant resources utilized by the site occupants, as
well as a radiocarbon date of the wood burned in the feature.
