Rhodotorula taiwanensis RS1 was isolated from acidic soils and showed high tolerance to toxic aluminum. Mitochondria are suggested to play a crucial role in the adaptation of organisms to metal stresses. The complete mitochondrial genome of Rhodotorula taiwanensis RS1 was determined using a Roche 454 Genome Sequencer in order to supply information for understanding the evolution of fungal mitochondrial genomes and researching aluminum tolerance mechanism in microorganisms.
