Microbes In the Coastal Region of Orange County (MICRO) time series

At the the MICRO time series at Newport Beach, CA (33.608 N, 117.928 W), which is located in the Southern California Bight and proximal to the California Current Ecosystem, El Nino acts as a natural phenomenon that can serve as an analog for the impacts of climate change on marine microbial communities. Between 2009-2022 surface seawater samples were collected on an approximately weekly basis and analyzed for various genomic properties. We sequenced the rpoC1 gene from the biogeochemically important marine picocyanobacteria Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus at 434 time points from 2009-2018. A total of 31 metagenomic samples were sequenced in 2021-2022 in response to a local oil spill.
