We investigated consequences on microbial community composition and carbon cycling in aquatic ecosystems upon input of zooplankton carcasses and humic matter. We tested the hypothesis that LOM provided by zooplankton carcasses selects for generalist bacteria in contrast to ROM which selects to a larger extent for specialists.
