Datasets Supporting the Study of Air Pollution in India

This repository contains the primary datasets generated and analysed for the study on air pollution perception, behavioural response, and policy effectiveness in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. The dataset collection consists of four Excel files corresponding to distinct stakeholder perspectives and observational layers: D1 – Resident-level survey data capturing perception of air quality, health impact awareness, risk tolerance, behavioural adaptation (mask usage, mobility reduction), and trust in policy interventions. D2 – Business and transport-sector survey data documenting compliance behaviour, economic impact of air pollution control measures, adaptive strategies, and regulatory response patterns. D3 – Community and institutional perception dataset assessing enforcement visibility, public confidence in regulatory agencies, and perceived effectiveness of pollution control policies. D4 – Field observation dataset recording on-ground indicators such as pollution visibility, enforcement presence, signage, traffic density, and episodic smog intensity across selected locations. Due to documented constraints in large-scale, continuous urban data collection—including access limitations, respondent fatigue, and temporal variability in pollution exposure—controlled interpolation techniques were applied selectively for experimental completeness and comparative analysis. Interpolations were performed conservatively, preserving empirical distribution properties and avoiding distortion of observed trends. These datasets support the empirical analysis, hypothesis testing, and policy framework development presented in the associated manuscript on Delhi air pollution governance and adoption of mitigation behaviours.
