Global Wastewater Microbial and Virus Genomic Comprehensive Dataset

The increase in global urbanization and industrialization has led to a significant rise in wastewater production, posing major challenges for environmental sustainability and public health. Despite the crucial role of microbial communities in wastewater, a significant knowledge gap exists in our comprehensive understanding of their biogeographical distribution. By analyzing wastewater samples from 575 locations across 74 cities in 60 countries, this study conducts an extensive analysis of microbial and viral genomes in wastewater systems, constructing a dataset of 12,785 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) and identifying a total of 1,502,284 viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs). The genomic information provided by this dataset is instrumental for analyzing the dynamics, functions, and interactions within global wastewater systems.
