Biomineralization of divalent metals by urease producing bacteria isolated from South African mine pit lakes

This project investigates the biomineralization potential of urease-producing bacteria isolated from alkaline and acidic mine pit lakes in South Africa. The primary focus is on the microbial-induced precipitation of calcium and magnesium carbonates through urea hydrolysis, a process that can immobilize dissolved metal ions and contribute to water quality remediation.
