In-depth characterisation of the diversity of the capsule region across ST131, and specifically characterising a capsule switch in a phylogenetically distinct cluster within E. coli ST131 clade C. We show that this switch is characterised by a divergent kpsM variant that forms part of an atypical capsule operon.
