A study on the functional capabilities of coastal communities in areas with different level of pollution was done, with particular attention to hydrocarbon degradation features of microbial communities. The study included the analysis of two environmental samples (pristine and chronically-polluted) and samples from mesoscosm analysis with pristine water artificially-polluted in the laboratory.
