This study compares the impact of selecting the V3–V4 and V4 hypervariable regions of the 16S rRNA gene on salivary microbiota analysis. The results show that while alpha diversity does not differ, the choice of region significantly affects beta diversity and the relative abundance of many bacterial taxa.
