Butterflies are diverse in virtually all aspects of their ontogeny biology, such as morphology, life history, behavior etc.. However, the developmental regulatory mechanism of many important phenotypic traits remains unknown. This study provides important insights into larval cuticle color, and also important data resource for investigating developmental regulatory mechanism in butterfly ontogeny.
