Sex Education Curriculum Database: Austria, Germany, and Switzerland

The Sex Education Curriculum Database: Austria, Germany, and Switzerland provides a collection of school curriculum texts on sex education in Austria, West-German Bundesländer and German-speaking Cantons in Switzerland from 1970 to 2020. Sex education is a key site for the provision of knowledge about reproduction, bodies, sexuality, and relationships, and it offers an important perspective on the regulation of reproduction through schooling. Since its integration into schools in the mid-twentieth century, sex education has changed substantially, but these developments have been difficult to trace systematically, especially in subnational education systems. The database addresses this gap by assembling curriculum texts across five decades and making them available in a structured format for comparative analysis. In doing so, it provides both a historical archive of sex education curricula and a basis for qualitative and quantitative curriculum research across a range of disciplines.
