Annually, the opportunistic human fungal pathogens Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus deneoformans are estimated to affect nearly a quarter of a million individuals around the world. Phenotypes such as cell size and the ability to grow filamentously are linked to the ability of these species to survive, forge for nutrients, and cause disease. While its known these virulence related phenotypes vary across isolates little is known regarding the underlying genetic architecture of such traits. Here we utilize quantitative triat locus mapping to investigate cell size and selffilamentous growth in C. deneoformans progeny generated from crossing lab constructed strain CF830 and CF830.
