Bacterial and Archaeal communities during storage of dairy liquid manure

Microbial communities and the emissions of methane were monitored in four gas-tight, thermostatted tanks, which mimic real farm conditions of liquid manure storage. Fresh substrate was collected weekly from a dairy farm and added to the tanks daily. Two experiments were conducted over the time period of 92 days, one with only the fresh manure (WOI) and another with the fresh manure addition, plus an initial inoculum (consisting of stored manure; WI).
