Early development of the intestinal microbiota in horses, and associations with mare microbiotas

Equine rectal microbiota was sampled at birth, 24 hours later and 7 days later. The microbial DNA was analyzed by 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing using Illumina MiSeq. The foal microbiotas were compared to mare fecal, vaginal and oral microbiotas. Extensive negative controls are included.
