This study examined the potential of resveratrol in alleviating the negative effects of early-weaning in calves. Early-weaning disrupts gut microbial homeostasis, induces oxidative stress, and triggers an inflammatory response, increasing diarrhea incidence. Resveratrol supplementation enhanced growth performance and decreased diarrhea incidence. Resveratrol restores the immune-antioxidant equilibrium to levels comparable to conventional weaning, enriched beneficial gut microbiota and increased SCFAs concentrations. Importantly, the abundance of parabacteroides is related to tryptophan metabolism regulation. These results suggest that early removal of calves from liquid milk through resveratrol represents a promising strategy for nutritional management.
