THANADOS - The Anthropological and Archaeological Database of Sepultures

The Anthropological and Archaeological Database of Sepultures Archaeological and anthropological portal to medieval grave finds in Austria Several hundred burial grounds and cemeteries from the early Middle Ages (about 600 to 1100 AD) are known from the territory of today's Austria, which have been archaeologically or anthropologically researched and published. The first were excavated more than 150 years ago and the methods of documentation, analysis and presentation of data and results have been constantly evolving since then. The THANADOS project, which is based at the Natural History Museum Vienna and the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the OeAW, provides an online repository of Austria's early medieval grave finds. An interactive web application for the presentation of the data is developed by the THANADOS team in cooperation with specialists from the ACDH of the ÖAW. This web application, which can be accessed with any modern browser, allows users to explore the data, specific searches, visualizations and download the raw data on the one hand, and specialized query results in common formats on the other. A cartographic and a data-centric interface complement each other seamlessly.
