PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preserving starch present in pulp and controlling the precipitation and/or scaling of calcium in a digester or BOD system. SOLUTION: Preservation of the starch present in the pulp is performed as part of a paper making process. The process water containing pulp is treated with chloramine， and the process water containing pulp along with natural starch is double-treated with at least one biocide such as chloramine and at least one oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite. The process may be performed by any preferred method and may be performed at one or more stages or locations of the paper making system. SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
