If Dante's fortune in the literature of the Baroque period is limited, however, some works and authors reveal surprising traces (in particular on a stylistic / rhetorical level) derived mainly from the 'Commedia'. This essay analyzes not a few significant places in the poetic texts of Giuseppe Battista, a native of Grottaglie, a leading poet of Baroque lyric, who, among other things, explicitly mentions the author of the 'Commedia' as a connoisseur of the highest authority of the art of metaphor, a fundamental rhetorical figure also for the poetics of the Baroque age.
